LPG Gas Cylinder Safety Guidelines:

  • Always Be sure to buy from an authorized franchisee only.
  • Things to keep in mind while buying LPG gas cylinder that do not forget to check the company seal and safety cap on the cylinder at the time of delivery. If the seal is broken then  do not accept the cylinder.
  • From the top of the cylinder to the inside side of the grip handle marked the due date quarter.
    A means – March, B means – June, C means – September, D means – December and testing  year is written. If DFT A-24 is written it means cylinder shall be tested on or before March 2022, So do not accept the cylinder if the due date has passed.
  • Before receiving and using new cylinders, check for proper cylinder joints, cylinder head valves.
  • After installing the regulator, check for gas leakage by applying soap solution in all places and if bubbles are noticed after applying the soap solution, the cylinder has to be returned.
  • Do not use open Fire, matches, lighters to detect gas leaks.

Things to keep in mind while cooking with LPG Gas Cylinder:

  • Keep kitchen doors and windows open for proper ventilation.
  • Do not place flammable or plastic items near the flame on the cooking stove platform.
  • Do not leave ongoing cooking alone.
  • Always wear an apron.
  • When the cylinder is not in use, keep the regulator knob in the closed position.

LPG gas cylinder : Do`s and Don`ts

Matters to be considered in case of fire accident and emergency:

  • Close the regulator and burner nibs. Keep calm and don’t panic.
  • Open all doors and windows for ventilation.
  • If a gas cylinder is on fire and you are able to extinguish it, wet a large cloth , cover the fire and then pour water on the clothes continuously. Fire extinguisher if available, use on fire.
  • If a pan catches fire while cooking, turn off the knob of the gas stove, Fire should be extinguished using proper type of fire extinguisher only and cover it`s lid immediately if it is safe to do so. Don`t try to extinguish cooking oil fire with water, it makes situation worst.
  • After put on the fire, separate the regulator from the cylinder and put a safety cap to protect the cylinder and cylinder shall be placed in an open space.
  • In case not able to put on fire, contact nearest fire brigade or emergency center immediately with the help of official emergency contact number.
  • In case of gas leakage, do not operate electrical switches and appliances in the room and turn off the main switch from outside the main power supply immediately.
  • Since LPG is heavier than air, keep windows and doors open, also clean the floor with water to disperse the gas and make it`s concentration down.
  • In case of major fire, immediately call your nearest fire service for assistance if required.

Other Considerations for LPG Gas Cylinders:

  • If possible keep the LPG cylinder in the kitchen bar safely in the shade. (Keep away from direct heat)
  • Disconnect the LPG regulator when your gas stove is not in use for a long period of time. Place the safety cap on the cylinder.
  • Replace Gas pipe from time to time according to the bad condition. Replace the pipe every 3-5 years or as per it`s condition.
  • Always use standard tubes, stoves, regulators and LPG appliances.
  • Never tamper with LPG cylinder, stove. Always get it repaired from authorized person.
  • Always get it inspected periodically by authorized franchisee / person
  • It is mandatory that staff should be trained in fire safety, prevention, emergency evacuation, should conduct mock drill from time to time.
  • Always make sure that you do not cut off the safety cap that comes with the LPG cylinder. This plug can be used to stop leakage.
